Sep 06, 2026- Episodes 7 and 16 are set to private on the YouTube channel and have no player below. They are not deleted. Change them to public or unlisted in YouTube Studio and tell me, and I will add the two players.
- Episodes 1 to 8 have no descriptions. The old pages were bare video embeds, so there was nothing to carry across. One line each would make a real difference here.
- The four part Special Edition from January 2008 has no subject. What was it?
Between 2007 and 2009 I made a video podcast about frame drums.
There was not much online about this instrument family then. Almost no tutorials, very little footage, and nothing that showed the great players up close and let them talk about what they were actually doing with their hands. So I took a camera to festivals and to friends' houses and asked them.
Looking back at the list now, I am still amazed at who said yes. Glen Velez, Marcos Suzano, Itamar Doari, N. Scott Robinson, Andrea Piccioni, Tommy Hayes, River Guerguerian, Rafael Pereira, Kobi Hagoel, Mehmet Akatay, Shekoofeh Pariab, Vladiswar Nadishana. Some of these are the players who shaped how the frame drum is played today, and they were generous with their time and their knowledge in a way I have never forgotten.
These episodes have lived on my old website for close to twenty years. That site is now closing, so here they all are in one place.

Since then
A lot has changed. What took a camcorder and a festival pass in 2008 has grown into a proper school. World Percussion Academy now has courses on the frame drum, the riq, the cajon, the darbuka and more, with guest teachers from around the world.
Glen Velez, who you can see in Episode 15 above, teaches a full course here now. That one still makes me smile.
